About Me

Hi there, I'm Amara! I grew up in Northern Virginia but recently made the move to New York. My passion for tech and design started with something simple—helping my mom navigate technology. Due to language barriers and poor usability, digital products often felt frustrating for her, so I saw firsthand how design can unintentionally exclude users.

I always reminded her that it wasn't her fault—it was a flaw in the product's design. That experience shaped my belief that we have a responsibility to build thoughtful products that empower users rather than hinder them.

💡 How I Approach Design

I take an iterative, human-centered approach to design, using research and feedback to continuously refine and improve experiences. I believe great design is a collaborative effort—which means partnering with users and cross-functional teams to craft delightful and effective solutions.

🔥 What I Do Best

  • Technical & Human-Centered Background – With a Computer Science & Cognitive Science degree from UVA, I understand both the logic behind technology and the psychology behind user interactions.
  • Accessibility & Inclusive Design – With three years of experience in public sector projects, I prioritize accessible and inclusive design, not just in digital interfaces but also in PowerPoints, PDFs, and other user-facing content.
  • User Research & Usability Testing – With experience conducting stakeholder interviews, usability testing, and competitive analysis, I translate user insights into actionable design decisions that enhance usability and engagement.

⭐ Beyond the Work

When I'm not designing or coding, you can find me:

  • Attending concerts (especially BTS ones!)
  • Exploring local eateries and writing reviews
  • Editing videos to capture my favorite memories
  • Giving back to my community and supporting meaningful causes
